This is THE sealant specified by Lotus/GM for use in the Corvette ZR-1 LT5 engine. LT5 Cam (Valve) Covers do not use gaskets.  The Cam Cover/Cylinder Head utilizes PermaBond A136, an anaerobic sealant instead. PermaBond A136 is also recommended by Lotus for use with the Lotus Esprit and also used in the aircraft industry.

Previously very hard to find in the US and was recently discontinued by PermaBond.  Our efforts to acquire it resulted in PermaBond bringing the product back.

Corvette ZR-1 LT5 applications:

• Cam Cover/Cylinder head joint GM PN 12345980
• Cylinder Case/Crankcase joint GM PN 12345980
• Front Cover/Torsional Dampener Seal OD joint (recommended by Jerry's Gaskets)
• Camshaft Bore Plugs/Cam Cover & Cyl Head (optional)

It is extremely important that a proper, non-shimming anaerobic sealant be used at the Cam Cover joint since the camshaft journal bearings are machined into the cover & cylinder head.  Any shimming effect will result in increased cam journal clearance and likely resulting in severe engine damage.

A136 is a high viscosity anaerobic resin paste designed for making medium strength 'formed in situ' gaskets between metal surfaces. A136 is capable of replacing a wide range of conventional gasket materials, thereby offering the potential for reduced stock holdings of pre shaped gaskets. By allowing a full surface to surface contact, load transmission can be improved. Because the gasket adhesive product does not shrink, creep or relax after curing, there is no shimming effect and no requirement for later bolt re-tightening.
